Founder Coach Gaffney's Bio

Tim Gaffney played high school baseball at Manitou Springs High School from 1999-2002. He earned 2nd Team All Conference honors in 2002 as a team captain, and turned down a partial scholarship to play for St. Mary college in Leavenworth, KS because of the high tuition costs. Attending Pikes Peak Community College for the next year, Gaffney played second base for the Colorado Springs Diamondbacks of the MABL amateur league every summer since 2003. He has attended tryouts for both the Cincinnati Reds, and the Major League Scouting Bureau. In the fall of 2003, he and pitcher Chris Antosiak (2006) started the baseball program at UCCS. The spring of 2005 marked UCCS' first season in the National Club Baseball Association. Gaffney's ambition for the team to win the conference title in the first year stirred a great deal of criticism and scrutiny. Doubters were quickly silenced when the Mountain Lions won the conference title in 2005. Since then, Gaffney has led the Mountain Lions to two more conference titles in as many years. Gaffney was one of 5 UCCS players named to the 2006 NCBA All-Rocky Mountain Region 2nd team, and earned NCBA National Player of the Week and RMSC Player of the Week honors. 2008 will mark Gaffney's first year not playing for the Mountain Lions. Since the team was moved to NCBA Division I competition, Gaffney brings them into the Mid-America West Conference which includes CU-Boulder, University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado State. "Our move into NCBA Division I is a real positive for this program because we pride ourselves on setting our goals high and continuing the winning tradition we have in this program." (Coach Gaffney)
